Es miss sein (It must be!)
7:30 PM
A vivid, atmospheric piano trio provides a contemporary introduction to the heart of this program: Beethoven’s last completed work literally asks Life’s Big Question (‘Must it be? —It must be!’), and all the grave humility and life-affirming joy realized over a lifetime is distilled to its heartfelt essence. Unknown outside his native Russia, Sergei Tanayev was a great musical architect, master of polyphony and counterpoint, and his colossal, monumental Piano Quintet is truly extraordinary by any standard.
LERA AUERBACH Piano Trio No. 1, Op. 28
LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN String Quartet No. 1 in F Major, Op. 135
SERGEY TANEYEV Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 30
6:30pm Pre-Concert Talk
PERFORMING ARTISTS
Daniel Chong, Diana Cohen, Amy Schwartz Moretti and James Thompson, violin
Jessica Bodner and Teng Li, viola
Julie Albers and Jay Campbell, cello
Michael Stephen Brown, piano
