Hospice of the Western Reserve Volunteer Training Series

Are you looking for a way to help individuals in your community? We serve palliative and hospice care patients/families wherever they call home and have a wide range of volunteer opportunities to fit your talents, interests, and schedule including making phone calls, providing respite, attorney/notaries, licensed hairdressers, dietary team assistance and reception duties at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, and receptionist assistance at David Simpson Hospice House and our Headquarters office in Cleveland. We usually hold two virtual training series each month. Upcoming training sessions are scheduled on Saturday, October 9 & 16 from 9 am – 4 pm (1 hour lunch break from 12-1 pm) or Tuesdays and Tuesdays, October 19, 21, 26, & 28 from 1-4 pm. Registration for a specific series is contingent on meeting pre-registration requirements which include completing an application, criminal background check, and pre-screening interview. Cleveland Heights Eco Fair

The Cleveland Heights Green Team is sponsoring an Eco Fair Saturday, October 9 from 11am to 3pm. Fair participants will focus on resources for sustainable living; tips for healthy living; eco-friendly, hands-on fun children; and the opportunity to trade, upcycle and recycle stuff others can use in the swap zone. The Library Book Bike and a DJ will be on site as well. Masks are optional and parking is available behind the library. Supporting organizations include Heights Libraries and FutureHeights.

Doan Brook Gorge Hike with Dr. Roy Larick

Join Doan Brook Watershed Partnership and Dr. Roy Larick of Bluestone Conservation for a guided hike of the Doan Brook gorge. Learn how it was formed and changed with Shaker milling, industrialist estates and the Baldwin Reservoir. Also see how stormwater runoff is stored before entering Lake Erie.

Hikers will meet outside the main entrance of Fairhill Partners building at 2pm on Saturday, October 9th. The hike will last approximately 2 hours and will feature undeveloped trails and some difficult terrain. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear! A $5 per person fee payable in cash or check will be collected on the day of the event.
