Heights High Gospel Choir to honor the late Eric Wright
CHHS Gospel Choir will honor Eric Wright (shown here with the Wright Family Singers) at a winter concert on Dec. 16.
The Cleveland Heights High Gospel Choir will perform its 34th annual winter concert, “Celebrate the Wonder,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the Dina Rees Evans Performing Arts Center at Cleveland Heights High School.
This year’s performance is dedicated to the memory of the late Minister Eric Wright, a Cleveland musician and former member of the Heights High Gospel Choir, who died in June.
Wright graduated from Heights High in 1982. Following his graduation, he lent his musical talents to the choir until his death. Wright most recently joined the choir for its April production of “Your Arms Too Short to Box with God.”
The Wright Family Singers, who have sung together for more than 40 years, will join the gospel choir as special musical guests during this year’s concert. Willie Wright, the family’s eldest son, helped found the Cleveland Heights Gospel Choir in 1974, and all eight children sang in the Heights Gospel Choir during their years as students. The children’s mother, Willie Mae Wright, 77, is an internationally known gospel singer
“Anyone who knew Eric could attest that he was a one-man band,” said Sandra Dixon, Cleveland Heights Gospel Choir Director. “Eric could single-handedly create a sound that made you think that there were five or more musicians playing together. Although he is greatly missed, the family has continued to sing together. They’re sustained by their faith and trust in God. We invite you to come and share in this tribute and “Celebrate the Wonder” of the season.”
Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for students (K-12) and senior citizens.
