Three Heights students share their success stories through video

Heights High Senior T’Yana Nixon-Lee is featured in a recent video where she recognizes several staff members when she talks about her school success.

Last spring, three Heights High students told their school stories--about their lives as students and how the school staff made a difference to them. The short video stories are available on the CH-UH website www.chuh.org/multimedia/videos and were shown to CH-UH staff at the Convocation gathering on Aug. 29, before school started for students.

Seniors T’Yana Nixon Lee and Brandon Fernando and 2011 graduate Dedrick Bringht are featured in the videos and talk about the staff members who contributed to their success at Heights High.

The students recognized staff members for teaching, guiding, encouraging, monitoring, and pushing them to do their very best.

Bringht recognized Guidance Counselor Mary Ann Brennan. “It was validating to be recognized by a student,” Brennan said. “And it was heartening to hear his excitement about learning and academic accomplishment.”

Fernanco is taking classes at Cleveland State University this year as part of the Post Secondary Enrollment Option and takes two classes at Heights High. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the tennis team.

Nixon Lee is part of the Clinical Health Careers program, a member of the National Honor Technical Society, and is applying to several nursing schools this fall. Her goal is to be a nurse midwife.

The videos are a reminder of the power of human connections in the school experience. For school staff, it was a reminder of the value of their work.
