Community Art Contest offers $150 prize
Five years ago, the Heights Libraries celebrated the grand opening of a bridge spanning Lee Road. This year, it celebrates the opening of Harvey & FRIENDS Bookshop/Cafe located near the library side of that bridge. To commemorate both of these events, the FRIENDS of Heights Libraries invites one and all to take part in a Community Art Contest.
Contestants, aged 18 years and older, may submit one piece of original artwork, in any medium, created on the theme "Books are the Bridge to the World." The piece must be two-dimensional, measuring 2’ x 3' or smaller. Only 30 submissions will be accepted, so contact the FRIENDS group early to register your intent to participate. The deadline for registration is Friday, Sept. 30. The pieces will be exhibited in the Bookshop/Cafe through the month of October.
Regardless of age or residence, anyone who views the exhibit can get involved in judging which piece is the best in the show. During the month of October, library visitors will be given one voting ballot for each dollar spent in the Bookshop/Café. Multiple votes are encouraged! The winner will be announced at a special event in early November, and will receive a cash prize of $150. The FRIENDS reserve the right to sell the winning piece.
For more details and to arrange a submission, e-mail to friends@heightslibraries.org or call 216-932-3600 ext. 299. All proceeds benefit the libraries’ many facilities, resources, services and programs.
