oldboy and 'The Princess Bride' headline Thursday's music and movie at Coventry

The Heights Observer will co-sponsor this week’s Summer Music & Movie series event, Aug. 4. Local band, oldboy, will provide the night’s music at 7:30 p.m., and the movie “The Princess Bride” will be shown when it gets dark, around 9 p.m.

The award-winning, PG-rated film, “The Princess Bride,” is a classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince and a beautiful princess. Released in 1987, the film was directed by Rob Reiner and stars: Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin and Robin Wright.

According to its Facebook page, local folk/indie/pop group, oldboy, is a band that “understands the blue collar mentality of musicians working hard to put together good music and good shows.” Members include Shawn Brewster; Kevin Suman; FutureHeights Board Member Mike Kinsella; Istvan Medgyesi; and Joshua Davis.

The music and movie series runs each Thursday from June to Aug. 11. The Coventry Village Special Improvement District, Coventry P.E.A.C.E. and other sponsors, present free, family entertainment with live music and a special movie feature.

The series is held at Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Park (corner of Euclid Heights Boulevard and Coventry Road), at the bottom of the hill on the soccer field. “Bring a blanket, food from home or a local merchant, and friends to enjoy this special neighborhood treat,” said Steve Presser, marketing director for the Coventry Village SID, adding “bring a battery-powered FM radio, boom box or personal device to the show and tune it to 91.7 FM to get stereo movie sound, just like a real Drive In.”

Next week, the series presents the movie “The Wizard of Oz.” “We are trying to reschedule last week’s show, ‘Breaking Away,’ which was cancelled due rain,” said Presser.
