Big Band Dance at The Alcazar
Ever wanted to dance in a ballroom with a live band? Perhaps you didn’t try because you didn’t know how. Well, Sunday, March 21, is your chance to take a quick lesson, then dance to the music of the 17-piece Prime Time Big Band in the ballroom of The Alcazar.
You’ll also get a chance to take a tour of The Alcazar, a Cleveland Heights landmark at 2450 Derbyshire, built in 1923 in the Spanish-Moorish style. Its Grand Ballroom will be the site of dance instruction from 1-1:45 p.m., followed by dancing to the Prime Time Big Band from 2-4:30 p.m. and refreshments including appetizers, desserts, non-alcoholic punch, coffee and tea.
From 4:30-5 p.m. tours of The Alcazar will be offered for those interested in checking out its architecture and apartments.
Prizes will be given for the best bonnet or fedora, and there will also be door prizes from local merchants.
Tickets to this Spring Fling are $15, two for $25, and admission is free for anyone over 80 who reserves ahead of time. Tickets are limited, so call 216-321-5400 to reserve yours.
By the way, the Alcazar is handicapped accessible, with lots of parking available on the street. Parking will also be permitted behind Brueggers and Howard Hanna (off Surrey) as well as in a church lot between Cedar & Derbyshire.
Janet Hildebrandt is the marketing manager for The Alcazar.
