FutureHeights to Launch Heights Observer Print Edition at Annual Meeting

Lauren Rich Fine

FutureHeights will distribute the first print version of the Heights Observer at its annual meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10th at the Heights Rockefeller Building.

The Heights Observer features volunteer-generated articles and photographs about issues and interests in Cleveland Heights and University Heights. The free newspaper will be available at various locations throughout the two communities monthly and, eventually, bi-weekly.

FutureHeights launched heightsobserver.org, the online counterpart to the paper, in March 2008 with technical assistance from the Lakewood Observer, Inc., a citizen-driven hyperlocal news source that has for the last four years published in Lakewood, Ohio. Supported by seed-funding provided by the Cyrus Eaton Foundation, the Dominion Foundation, and the Katherine and Lee Chilcote Foundation, FutureHeights launched the Heights Observer project to further its mission of engaging citizens, strengthening the local economy and building a strong community in the Heights.

Lauren Rich Fine, a nationally recognized media expert, will be the guest speaker at the meeting. Her topic: "Tomorrow's Paper: Hyperlocal."

All residents and interested persons are welcome to attend. The meeting is free and open to the public. A dessert reception will follow.
