Move city banking & investment activity to responsive, locally-owned banks. National & internationally-owned banks, insurance co's & investment co's have caused major damage to our economy through fraud & participation in risky & illegal practices such as derivatives, collateral debt obligations & credit default swaps. All of these have contributed to the mortgage/housing crisis & Cuyahoga County's shocking foreclosure rate, and facilitated obscene personal profits of the executives of these institutions. Thousands in our area have lost homes & jobs. Cleveland Hts City government should take a stand on this issue and move their money.

Our local economy could use a boost. Money spent with locally-based businesses circulates many times before disappearing into the void. Money spent elsewhere is gone as soon as it's spent. One possibility to consider: a small incentive paid to every City employee who resides within city limits. (It has been held unconstitutional to require residence as a condition of employment. This proposal passes legal muster by being merely an incentive.) The City will benefit by receiving all the local income taxes paid by these employees and by seeing an uptick in demand for housing. Residents benefit from increased civic and community involvement and neighborly compassion. Add in the ancillary benefits to local businesses and their primarily local employees as the money recirculates, and the synergies grow. As they say, "It's a win-win situation."

Making it tougher to rent out properties. We need very tough laws and enforcement of them to weed out problem and Section 8 renters. These are the people for the most part that are ruining our community!

Bicycle pathways separate from main streets connecting to University Circle. Cities which do this sort of thing attract new residents who tend to be more active in community life. These can be beautiful parkways which encourage healthy activity while improving the environment and promoting energy independance thru conservation rather than every more drilling and burning of fossil fuels.

The City government should prioritize collaborating with the CHUH School District on holistic and integrated neighborhood planning. With the sustainable zoning code being written, Severance Town Center soon to be abandoned, the schools reconfiguring their presence in our neighborhoods, and other planning issues and opportunities large and small, it's important for the two largest public stakeholders, who represent the citizens of the community, to come together and work together for the sake of the betterment of this community.
