Beyond the Vote: Uplifting Communities through Civic Engagement
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Voting is perhaps our most powerful tool for expressing our individual voices and enacting change, but it’s not our only tool. This November, in advance of the election, join moderator Jill Zimon, Executive Director of the Ohio Debate Commission, with panelists Alexis Crosby of Campus Vote Project, Kayla Griffen of All Voting is Local, and Ty Olson of Tri-C’s Sustained Dialogue program, for a discussion about how Cleveland-area residents are participating in civic engagement to create change – not only by exercising their right to vote but also by participating beyond the vote. While there is no widely agreed upon single meaning for the term, civic engagement is generally used to describe paid or unpaid individual participation in an activity that benefits the whole of society or a group within society. In an ever changing, increasingly polarized environment, how can neighbors work together to overcome partisanship for the benefit of the broader community? Don’t miss this relevant conversation for anyone curious about how to become the change they want to see in their communities.
