University Heights Symphonic Band Concert
7:00 PM
University Heights Symphonic Band (UHSB) is a 50-piece concert band based in University Heights, Ohio. Sponsorship is by the City of University Heights. UHSB started in the Summer of 1970 under founder and first Conductor, Doctor Harvey Sisler. The band repertoire runs the full gamut of concert band music, from marches to show tunes, light classics to contemporary concert band selections. UHSB Conductor is Devlin J. Pope.

UHSB performs year-round. Formal concerts are given during the Fall, Winter, and Spring, with holiday music featured during the Winter concerts. Summer performances are geared more to lighter fare.

Performances are given throughout Northeast Ohio, including retirement homes, churches, and synagogues. UHSB has also performed on tour in Chicago Illinois; Orlando, Florida; and Toronto, Ontario.

Being an all-volunteer group, UHSB has members that include professional musicians, medical personnel, students, retirees, and teachers. The common denominator is a love of music. Rehearsal and concerts are generally on Thursday evenings. Membership is through auditions.

UHSB is a member of the Association of Concert Bands, which covers the licensing to perform the music. UHSB is also a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

Chamberfest Cleveland: Extréme Expressions
7:30 PM
For our 10th season we celebrate the X factor, the unnameable, that certain *je ne sais quoi* that touches our souls and connects us as human beings.

From wild to sublime and back again, this program is a study in contrasts and character. Centering the first half, Soper’s slyly profound work intertwines vocal and instrumental gymnastics, bookended by Debussy’s concise and colorful Cello Sonata and the gorgeously inventive Introduction and Allegro by Ravel. Franck’s powerful Piano Trio evokes French organ style with both delicate filigree and monumental explosions of sound.

6:30pm PRELUDE TALK by Dr. Owen Cantor, D.M.D.

KATE SOPER Only the Words Themselves Mean What They Say
