American Cancer Society Volunteer Training- Road To Recovery Program
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Event open to public

The American Cancer Society is hosting trainings for new volunteers interested in the Road To Recovery program. The Road To Recovery program provides free transportation to cancer patients in the community who cannot get to or from their treatment related appointments. This is a flexible opportunity that provides the volunteer with the opportunity to make a major difference in their community. Volunteers help when their schedule allows and on a case-by-case basis. We welcome volunteer who cannot commit to a set schedule.

Many cancer patients don’t own a vehicle, can’t afford the extra gasoline, or don’t have access to public transportation. Some patients may be elderly and unable to drive, too ill to drive, or have no family members or friends who are able to provide regular assistance with transportation. Even the best treatment can’t work if a patient can’t get there. Every driver has what it takes to save lives.

To volunteer, you must have a valid driver’s license, a safe and reliable vehicle, proof of automobile insurance, and have some flexible availability Monday-Friday 7am-7pm. Drivers must be at least 18 years old and have a good driving history. Volunteers arrange their own schedules and can commit as many or as few hours as their schedule allows. The American Cancer Society provides free training to drivers and conducts criminal background and driving record checks.

Online training or one-on-one training is also available for those who cannot attend these dates.

For information about the Road To Recovery program or to RSVP for a training, call TJ Gerrett at 1-888-227-6446 x 1106 or email Torrie.Gerrett@cancer.org

Burning River Baroque presents "At a Crossroad: Will You Live, Love, or Die?"
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Join Burning River Baroque for a diverse concert full of epic plot twists and compelling questions about how we engage with each other in relationships. This intriguing program of French cantatas and harpsichord solos features works by Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Julie Pinel, and Nicolas Racot de Grandval. Will Sémele live to see her lover appear as a God? What does this myth, and our personal reactions to it, say about how cultures view trust, honesty, and infidelity in men and women? In Grandval's epic parody, one soprano plays six different characters in "The Widow from Ephese." Yet on a more serious note, we witness one culture's view of widowhood and examine what we owe the deceased. Ultimately, we must each find the balance between pursuing our own happiness and pleasing others. This captivating hour of exquisite music will raise questions, challenge beliefs, and provide an excellent side of humor for good measure. Burning River Baroque is a non-profit ensemble based in Cleveland. Our mission includes bringing high-quality, engaging performances to diverse audiences in unique venues.
Come enjoy great food, drink, and music with us!
