Phillip Morris, Plain Dealer, Leads Public Forum on Race after Obama
Cleveland Plain Dealer columnist Philip Morris will lead a discussion on "Race in America; One Year After Obama's Election” Sunday, February 21 from 12:30 - 2:00 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Cleveland.
Since his 2004 keynote address at the Democratic National Convention launched him into the political spotlight, Barack Obama has left Americans speculating what his presidency could mean for race relations in their country. A year after his inauguration, Americans still disagree on how their country as been changed. Some political commentators have declared Obama’s presidency proof America has entered a “post-racial age”. Others, including Obama himself, have called the idea that centuries of divisions could be bridged in a single election cycle “naïve”.
This free forum invites members of the public to share their opinions on how the country has been changed by President Obama’s presidency. The discussion will be lead by Morris, winner of a 2008 National Headliner Award. WCPN Morning Edition host Eric Wellman will serve as moderator.
Sunday’s forum is part of the Society’s After-Service Forum Program. After-Service Forums are designed to foster discussion about important issues of interest in our community. Topics in the 2009/2010 series includes topics such as ethical eating, health care in America, and sustainability.
