“As caregivers to residents with Alzheimer’s, we experience the impact of this disease first-hand. We see and feel the daily struggle of residents and families,” said Joe Wilson, executive director of Homewood Residence at Rockefeller Gardens. “We are dedicated to the care we provide our residents who have Alzheimer’s, and are proud to be a key contributor in raising awareness and funds to help treat and eradicate this disease.”
According to a 2008 study of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias:
• More than 5.2 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s disease.
• One in eight persons age 65 or more has Alzheimer’s disease.
• Someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease every 71 seconds.
In 2007, Brookdale communities, with the support of its office teams in Chicago, Milwaukee and Nashville, raised more than $200,000 for Memory Walk. This year, Brookdale is looking to double its contributions over last year’s effort.
The company’s Clare Bridge communities focus solely on Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
