What’s So Unique About Cleveland Heights Architecture and Why Should We Preserve It?

Speakers: Michael Fleenor, Director of Preservation Programs, Cleveland Restoration
Society, and Kara Hamley O’Donnell, Historic Preservation Planner, City of Cleveland Heights

Come learn about the various architectural styles that exist in Cleveland Heights residential architecture, from 1800s farm houses to simple bungalows to high-style grand mansions.

Have you ever wondered what style the houses in your neighborhood were? Now you can find out! After learning about the various styles of our city’s residential architecture, we’ll learn about how (and why) historic preservation is important to our community.

Learn about what our city and others have done to encourage the preservation of neighborhoods, from walking tours to preservation ordinances, educational lectures to design guidelines and how preservation has positive economic benefit in communities like ours.

Celebrate National Historic Preservation Month
Throughout May 2008, the National Trust (www.nationaltrust.org) and its thousands of
partners across the country will demonstrate the importance of our nation’s heritage as they highlight the preservation movement, including historic travel, heritage education, historic home ownership, and community revitalization.

This year, the theme of the month-long celebration is “This Place Matters” and the City of Cleveland Heights Landmark Commission, FutureHeights and The Cleveland Heights Historical Society will present a lecture and two tours to celebrate our community and to encourage historic preservation of its architectural beauty. All events are limited to 50 attendees (30 for the high school tour). Reservations are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Please call 216-291-4878 to make your reservation.
